Good morning everyone, I hope you’ve had a wonderful week so far as we inch closer to Christmas 2021!
As we find ourselves surrounded by the sights and sounds of the holidays, we’re oddly warmed by their familiar presence. Santa, sleighs, reindeer, elves, yummy food, desserts, giving, family, snow, love, shopping, community, and so much more give us that once a year feeling of what we fondly know as the Christmas season.
The reality though resides in the fact that none of these things really represent Christmas. Rather they are expressions of the deeper meaning…
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: Behold a virgin shall be with child and give birth to a son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (God with us). (Isaiah 7:14)
It is solely because of this baby, Immanuel, God with us, that we have anything to celebrate at all. Because of this child we can enjoy the lighter expressions of the season such as the ones mentioned above and we can still feel the underlying foundation of what it all means.
Yet if we forget the depth of its value and the One it’s value is rooted in, then our celebrations become moot, void, pointless, and misguided regressing into another secular event less focused on uplifting others and more focused on making us feel good about ourselves.
I pray in the busyness of the coming days you are able to keep yourself centered on becoming RE-acquainted with He who is Christmas Himself, JESUS Christ, and guide those you have been entrusted with to a renewed sense of the season as well!
God bless you and your precious families,
Rob :^)
